The highest mountain in the western hemisphere, and the second highest of the Seven Summits (highest mountain on each of the 7 continents), Mt. Aconcagua is a formidable but immensely rewarding challenge for any adventurous world traveler.
Topping out at a height of 6,962 m (22,841 ft), the northern, or normal, route up the mountain is considered easy by climbing standards, since it does not necessarily require any mountaineering hardware. Do not let that fact fool you. Though the mountain is accessible, climbers will be exposed to freezing temperatures, strong winds and, commonly, varying degrees of altitude sickness along the 15+ day journey to and from the summit.
