Head south of Salta about 80 km and you'll hit one of the city's favorite adventure destinations: a large and scenic lake created by the massive 93 meter (305 ft) Cabra Corral Dam. Here, locals and tourists are treated to the usual array of water-based activities (swimming, boating, fishing, etc.), with the availability of hiking and horseback riding to help round out the possibilities outside of the water. Commission the services of a guide (or a chatty local) and you can even visit the centuries-old native rock paintings located within select caves and along rocky outcroppings that overlook the lake.
Feeling a bit bolder? Don't hesitate to try an adrenaline-inducing bungee jump off one of the dam's massive support columns, an activity that has become increasingly popular in recent years. All in all, this is far from a bad way to spend a beautiful afternoon in northwestern Argentina.
