Salta's Tren a las Nubes is one of the region's most popular attractions, a utility-turned-tourist railway that carries passengers to a dizzying height of 4,200 meters (13,780 ft) and back over the course of 16 hours. Yes, 16 hours. To be sure, there are some incredible vistas afforded on the journey, including the beautiful La Polvorilla viaduct, which constitutes the highest point reached on the journey; however, you and your companions might find this reward somewhat lacking considering the temporal (again, 16 hours round trip) and monetary costs ($170). Our recommendation? If cost is not an issue, prearrange a taxi to pick you up in San Antonio de Los Corbes on the return trip. And pack snacks. Lots of snacks.
Location:Caseros 441, Salta
Note:The train runs from 7am to midnight Thursday and Saturday, between the months of April and November. Purchase tickets in advance, as they sell out quickly.
