Centered primarily around Brunswick and Wickham Streets, this "Special Entertainment Precinct" (the only of its kind in Australia), is likely the most consistent area on the continent to catch live music or twerk it up in the club. Just northeast of central Brisbane and north of the Brisbane River, you go to Fortitude Valley for the nightlife, but the local Chinatown makes for a pleasant preponderance of Asian eateries (the pedestrian walkways off of Wickham) and there are a number of hotels, a few cafes (Flamingo is a funky alternative), and even burgers to be had.
Then again, we know why you are here. If you want something different than places whose reputations precede them (the Zoo, Family, Kerbside, Tivoli, etc.), just meander your way up and down the parallel Ann and Wickham Streets; you'll hear plenty of live music and get a chance to see which vibes might be to your liking.
