At 633 meters (2,077 feet) tall, Dandenong's draw is not its epic proportions, but its breathtaking panoramas of Melbourne and the surrounding countryside. At the top is Sky High, a multi-faceted viewing facility that also includes a mountain-top maze (think the ending of The Shining minus the psychopathic killer part) and various amenities. There is a gate fee of A$5 per car. If you're one who can't bear to find yourself privy to a great view without some sort of workout, we recommend taking the "1000 steps" from the car park at the bottom of the mountain.
Then again, the smaller adjacent mountains and connected forest are home to a number of trails. The Kyeema Track navigates the mountain of the same name, while the Stables Track Loop is accessed from the Doongalla Homestead Picnic Ground and provides a bit more of a hearty challenge.
Note:The trip from Melbourne is as easy as accessing the C415 by car, although you can also take the bus or train without too much hassle.
