The Golden Quest Discovery Trail requires two things from you (other than some sort of transportation and a good 3 days of your time, of course): an interest in what remains of the gold mining towns that blew up in the 1890's, and a true sense of adventure. It's a full day's trip from Perth alone, so if you're planning on doing the trail and returning to Perth, make sure you've got a good week's time on your hands. Then again, this self-drive trail is 965 kilometers (600 miles) long and includes over two dozen worthwhile stops, including ghost towns, a salt lake, and many museums, exhibits, and attractions that are reminiscent of the mad rush to get rich on gold. Go with a dynamic group of friends and make this the off-the-beaten-trek to remember. All of the details can be found on the included site.
