Although the Pantanal, in its massive scope and intrigue, has been included in a separate entry, we thought it best to also provide our users with information on the Caiman Refuge. What makes the Caiman Refuge worth your time is that it provides visitors with an opportunity to stay in the safe confines of a lodge, have an English speaking guide, and still explore everything that makes the Pantanal incredible. Over 230 km (143 miles) from the state capital of Campo Grande, you can take a private shuttle to the ranch, where you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of wetland activities over the course of a few days.
Looking to see over 200 different bird species? Want to trek into the wetland day and night to see the alligators, jaguars, and other creatures in their natural habitat? Then this is a must add to your itinerary to satisfy your inner-naturalist. Admittedly, this is a bit on the high-end as far as cost and style of accommodation (on par with safari-style resorts in other countries), but is well worth the money. You won’t find a more safe and comfortable place from which to explore the southern Pantanal.
