Arriving in Florianopolis, you're already going to know about the many resort beaches and kid-friendly locales that make this island such a highly frequented destination for family vacationers and resort-goers alike. Nevertheless, if you're willing to do a little hiking, there are niches of serenity and beauty to be found away from the seagull-like tourists and their squawking. Lagoinha do Leste is one such place.
There are two routes through the Atlantic Rainforest at the southern half of the island. The first begins at Praia da Armacao, cuts through Matadeiro, and after about 2.5 hours of moderate walking, opens onto the beautiful, sandy lagoon. The other, shorter route is from Pantano do Sul, which usually takes just over an hour on foot, although includes some more uphill trekking. Either way, your destination is a beautiful cove bordered by vegetation rich hillsides, an area long cherished by local fishermen and avid surfers.
