Brazil’s highest city, Campos do Jordao is a municipality located in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountain range about 167 km (103 miles) from Sao Paulo. A long-time winter travel destination for Paulistas, the town itself is notable for its winter atmosphere, where the German houses (particularly in the Capivari district) and Christmas lights give the area a festive flair that is capped by the Winter Festival, where musical performances are put on the main square, the Praça São Benedito.
We like Campos do Jordao in particular because of its proximity to a handful of nature parks, where there are a range of hiking day trips available to peaks that give excellent views of the surrounding countryside (Imbiri and Itapeva are highlights).
The Horto Florestal and Alberto Lofgren State Park are both popular nature preserves in the area. For more information, visit the following website.
