Sao Paulo is home to massive business districts and millions of people who work hard during the week to keep the modern machine of consumption ever-growing. In response, it is only natural that there is a booming weekend nightlife to grease these corporate cogs. From the superlative club experience to samba-rock all-nighters, there are a handful of districts throughout the city that will provide a range of nightlife that will leave none of our users wanting.
The best place to find a high concentration of bars and clubs in Sao Paulo is in the West End, especially in the neighborhoods of Vila Olímpia and Vila Madalena/Pinheiros. Vila Olímpia has the most diverse offering around, with jazz clubs, karaoke bars, raves, and anything else you'd expect to see in an international city, with a backdrop of sparkling lights and skyscrapers. Then again, the Vila Madalena and Pinheiros districts are home to some of the most consistent venues in Sao Paulo, including the Carioca Club, Finnegan's Pub, the diner stylings of Filial, live music bar Grazie a Dio, and Bar Secreto (the not so “secret bar”).
This is not to say that the rest of the city has nothing to offer. There are a good range of establishments in Centro, although some of the better ones can be hard to find. The Moema neighborhood in South Central Sao Paulo has a good number of nightlife venues, particularly around Lavandisca Avenue, while Southeast (the safest area of the city) has the notable neighborhoods of Tatuapé and Mooca.
Sao Paulo has a place for any traveler, whether you want to dance, watch a soccer game and drink chopp on the cheap, or indulge your Bohemian sensibilities. Just be aware that this is one of the most expensive cities in Latin America and therefore you'll be paying quite a hefty cover at some of the “cool” clubs, especially in West Sao Paulo.
