Located about 7 hours north from Vancouver on BC-97 is one of the greatest whitewater rafting adventures to be found anywhere. Often done in a mighty stretch that also includes the Chilcotin and Fraser Rivers, whitewater rafting the Chilko River is not for the faint of heart, with vicious water rapids that reach level IV and account for the longest continuous rapids in all of North America (23 km/14 miles).
The most famous section is Lava Canyon, which is the aforementioned longest stretch, while Big John Canyon and Farwell Canyon also contain extreme, adrenaline-pumping action.
We've included a suggested itinerary by an international tour operator that will bring you in from nearby Williams Lake. If the seven day, $3,000 trip is out of your price range, we suggest one of the shorter experiences provided by the Chilko River Rafting Corporation. Otherwise, put a week of your life aside to experience the British Columbia wilderness and one of the most epic whitewater adventures around.
