A provincial park on the western coast of Vancouver Island in Clayquot Sound, Maquinna Marine Park has been developed to protect the old-growth rainforest and the hot springs that are the center attractions of the park. Incredibly scenic, with a backdrop of distant mountains and the sparkling waters of the Pacific, you'll most likely arrive here with the intent to jump from your boat and into the Tofino Hot Springs. And why not; fed through rocky crags into a handful of steaming pools, these are worth the half hour of walking through the rainforest of hot springs cove. There are changing stations at the destination, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes on the hike and a swimming suit for the wonderfully warm springs.
The ride from Tofino, Nanaimo or Victoria (with any of a dozen or so tour providers or water taxi operators) is incredible in itself, for you'll undoubtedly glimpse any number of whale species and other aquatic creatures.
