One of the most famous Taoist mountains in China, Laoshan is the tallest mountain on the lengthy eastern coast and the biggest attraction in the vicinity of Qingdao. Although it is a whopping 800 km (500 miles) from Beijing, Laoshan is worth an adventure if you're one for off-the-beaten-path treks and highly sought after places of worship. With views over the coast and a number of valuable temples, palaces, and related attractions from end of the mountain to the other, there is plenty to keep you exploring for a day or more.
Places of note include Taiqing Palace, the largest and oldest of the buildings that remain, and Sanqing Palace, while numerous waterfalls, pristine bays, and other natural wonders await those inclined to tackle the outdoors.
Note:Its only reasonable to spend some time in Qingdao if you're visiting Laoshan. Qingdao is known for some nice beaches, but is especially famous for Tsingtao Brewery, which is internationally distributed and has been making beer since 1903.
