Mount Mogan, or Moganshan (莫干山) as it is locally known, is a great place to escape the busier cities of Shanghai or Hangzhou and spend a few days hiking, biking, visiting historical sites, or just plain relaxing in the quiet hills. Although the name emphasizes the "mountain", it is not really famous for its summit, but rather the natural beauty and serenity of the landscape.
Famous for its bamboo forests, hiking through the hills you will also come upon a variety of lakes, waterfalls, and small farming plots where the locals will diligently tend to their crops and chickens that you are sure to dine on later that day at any of the small village restaurants. Renting a bike is another great way to explore the countryside, but can be a little strenuous going up and down the hills so be prepared for a workout.
While camping is a possibility, it may be tough to find a decent flat and secluded area to set up so you might better off staying in a small guest house for the night. While there are a lot of expensive spots that cater to wealthy residents of Shanghai and Hangzhou, you can easily find cheaper and more local places if you prefer
