Located just outside of San Gil in Colombia is Rio Suarez, one of the best white water rivers in South America. As this was the first time I had experienced grade 5 rapids in South America, once was just not enough: I had to go twice!
The boys from El Dorado Rafting looked after us and made sure we had a fun, enjoyable, yet thrilling time on the river. The first time I went, we were in a lower part of the river so there was just 1 grade 5 rapid amongst several 4's. The second time I went, the water was higher due to some rain so we were further up the river. This time we were lucky to have 2 grade 5 rapids that really got the heart racing.
Both times we finished up the day at a Colonial house eating chicken, drinking beer and watching some locals play tejo. A fantastic way to unwind after a amazing day on the river.
