A hiking and mountaineering paradise in northern Dalmatia, Paklenica National Park is located in the southern slopes of the Velebit mountain range and also contains some of the Dalmatian coastline. There is a range of forest types, as well as plenty of scalable peaks over 1000 meters and a handful of alluring canyons and gorges with walls over 500 meters (1640 feet) high. The biggest draw in the park are the two main canyons, Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica, both of which are prime destinations for hiking and rock climbing. For climbers, this is the best in Croatia. For everyone else, there is enough natural beauty and trails here to keep you occupied for a week or more. Check out the official website for information on accommodations, fees, and more.
Note:There are also some great caves to be explored, including Manita Peć, which is accessible by a moderate walk from Anića luka and consists of two large halls of stalactites and stalagmites.
