If you're exploring Croatia's northwest coast, then you should definitely visit the charming little city of Rovinj. With a rich history, including influences from various cultures (it was once ruled by the Republic of Venice and later on the Austrian Empire), Rovinj has a lot to offer any visitor. We had the chance of visiting Rovinj when we took a road trip from Vienna to Croatia. From the food to the architecture to scenic views, this little city made a lasting impression, especially St. Euphemia's Basilica, which looms over the picturesque harbor. Although most people tend to visit the larger cities of Croatia in the south, we highly suggest exploring the northern Istria region, Rovinj in particular, as it truly is a hidden gem.
