Once rated by Forbes Magazine as the best beach in Europe, the coastline near Brela is more known for its leisurely beauty than its adventures. Warm, crystal-clear water, picturesque coves and the looming Biokovo massifs in the distance just seem to have that effect on travelers. But far be it from you to settle for the ordinary, right?
If you decide to make the trip from Split for the day (and pay around $15 USD for parking), consider checking out what's available beyond swimming, snorkeling, boating and paddling along the beaches' 6 km length. Rent a bike and pedal the promenade, or book an excursion in the nearby mountains for a day of hiking or mountain biking that will make your beach-side lounges feel all the more well-deserved. It's not the most adrenaline-inducing place in Croatia but, if you want to mix scenic relaxation with some mild adventuring, this isn't a bad place to set up shop.
Note:The town of Brela is quickly and easily accessed to the south from Split by local, frequent bus stops.
