Velika Gubavica is a large, tree-studded waterfall in a canyon of the Cetina River, which should be a refreshing change for anyone tired of itineraries centered around walking tours and old buildings. Under an hour's drive east from Split, the river's limestone gorges plunge to depths of up to 200 m, creating a perfect setting in which to tackle some prime Croatian canyoning. You can rappel the cascades, cliff jump, rock climb, and hike with a number of different adventure tour groups (or on your own, though we don't recommend the latter unless you know the area fairly well), so it's best to set aside a full day to get the most out of the experience. Check out our link for more details on a sample itinerary, then get out there and enjoy some aquatic Croatian excitement away from the Adriatic.
