To call Jarun's man-made lake along the southwestern outskirts of Zagreb an adventure destination would be something of an exaggeration; its quaint setting and touristy appeal giving it more of an easy, leisurely bent. However, come the beautiful and often under-appreciated summer months in the Croatian capital, this picturesque body of water becomes home to the urban-active, taking to their bikes, boats and roller what-have-yous en masse in order to enjoy a little nearby reprieve from city living. Wind surfing is particularly popular here, but rowers and paddlers will find ample room to get in a workout. There are also running/biking trails that circumnavigate the lake, as well as a pebble beach for true adrenaline junkies in search of an adventurous tan. Should you not feel like calling it a day too quickly, feel free to stick around after hours, as Jarun turns into something of a nightlife hotspot for 20-somethings once the sun goes down.
Note:Take trams 5 and 17 from city center during the day and 34 at night if you're looking for quick and easy transport out to the lake.
