There are two things you should remember about Miragoj: it's a high-walled cemetery, and it's one of Zagreb's most impressive architectural landmarks. Now is not the time to play cute and coy and fret about walking through a "scary" necropolis. There's nothing remotely creepy about Mirogoj. Its towering main building, Christ the King Chapel and masterfully designed archways are all the work of famed architect Hermann Bolle, and are a stunning testament to 50 years of some of his most beautiful designs. Take a stroll among the final resting places of many famed Croatians (including Franjo Tudman, who became the country's first president after the war for independence) and marvel at the serene aesthetic beauty of this "Town of the Dead". OK, that last part may have sounded a little creepy, but just trust us; this is a piece of culture and design worth seeing for yourself.
