A world-famous theme park in the midst of the city, Tivoli Gardens has a variety of rides, shops, and eateries in a fine garden setting. Here, you will walk amongst buildings inspired by the ancient Orient, ride gravity-defying roller coasters and the world's tallest carousel, and even cross the sky in a cable car.
Unless you've packed the kids, this description could quite possibly elicit a yawn and a "who cares?" The truth is that Tivoli has seen a lot of history. It is the second-oldest amusement park on Earth and has outlasted much in its 160 years of existence. It's wooden roller coaster (the Rutschebanen) is nearly 100 years old and its famous arched entrance is even older. Tivoli is as much a part of the Copenhagen legacy as Carlsberg Brewery or Nyhavn.
Tivoli is also a popular performing arts area, where you can see pantomime theater, a concert hall, fireworks shows, and a series of popular acts that plays every Friday called "Fredagsrock". Depending on the season and time of day, the cost for entrance is 75-125 DKK ($12-$20 US), although rides, concerts, or other park amenities are not included.
Note:Open from April to September.
