What kind of uniquely adventurous tours and activities can I find here?
Our focus at Embark.org is to help get travelers off the beaten path and out exploring new environments. Some things on here you've probably heard of, others you most likely haven't; and that's the point. We strive to highlight adventures of all kinds: things that excite you, get you in touch with different cultures, push your physical boundaries and challenge your preconceptions about the world. Because in the end, it's exposure to these kinds of activities that allows you to experience the world in a way that's as unique and immersive as you want it to be.
How can I contribute and be a part of the community?
When you sign up with Embark.org, you can submit your own activities and adventure tours, follow community members who interest you, or leave comments on activities that already exist. We're also active daily on all major social media outlets, so don't be afraid to come join in on the conversation. Everything you share helps to create a more detailed picture of some of the most exciting places on Earth. The way we see it, travel inspiration is contagious, and when like-minded people start sharing their unique travel experiences, it makes true adventure more accessible to all of us.
I have an adventure activity that I'd like to share with the community. What are the guidelines for submitting?
We love getting submissions from our community, but in order to ensure that we deliver only accurate and adventure-focused activities to our members, we set the bar pretty high. Here are five necessary ingredients that will make your submission perfect for acceptance onto Embark.org:
- Stick to the adventures. Though we'll occasionally add in other unique activities to help round out the travel experience, our true passion is found in the great outdoors.
- Keep your focus narrow. Better to have a lot of information about a specific hike than lots of unrelated information about a massive national park.
- Be informative. The best summaries are original (no plagiarism), honest, and include enough detail to allow our community to experience the activity for themselves.
- Emphasize uniqueness. The more unique your activity, the better the chance that it will be listed here. If an activity is already well known, try to show it in a different, more adventurous light.
- Inspire with photos. Keep in mind that your pictures will be the first thing our community sees. Make sure that they capture the essence of the scene they're describing, and most importantly that they're your own. Horizontal photos work best, too.
I'm interested in hosting a P2P adventure tour on Embark.org. How do I get started?
If you're a motivated and well-qualified individual looking to host adventure tours around your area, just click the "Host an Adventure" button in the main header and fill in the required fields. Once all the necessary information has been submitted, it won't take long for your tour to be live on the site. Just bear in mind that we work hard to make sure all of our hosts and tours are both reliable and appropriate for our adventure-travel community, and we will be in contact with you soon after a tour is posted if a potential problem or discrepancy is detected.
What kind of person are you looking for in a P2P host?
Being a responsible person first and foremost is a prerequisite for all hosts on Embark.org. Ultimately, we are looking for individuals who are excited about sharing an adventure experience with people that are hoping to learn and see something new through your eyes. If you have a passion for exploring the world, and you like what you see on Embark.org, chances are you'll be a great adventure tour host.
What kind of qualifications do you need to become a P2P adventure tour host on Embark.org?
When a member of the Embark.org community books a tour with you as a local, they expect to encounter someone who is responsible for not only hosting a great experience, but for maintaining the safety of everyone involved as well. In cases where activities involve increased risk, we'll always ask potential hosts for more information. Any related experience, certifications/licenses or training may be requested. We may also conduct background checks, request references, or give a phone or in-person interview. So, while the emerging space of "sharing economies" can open up new connections to amazing people and places around the world, it's important for people to get engaged in the right way in order to provide our community with a safe and reliable experience.
I'm interested in leading adventure tours, but what do I do about liability insurance coverage?

I'm an adventure tour operator. Can I host my company's tours on Embark.org?
Yes. Our users are always looking for unique and exciting experiences, so we encourage tour operators who share our passion and excitement for adventure travel to submit tours to Embark.org. You'll have the ability to create custom-designed tours specifically for our community, or to advertise tours that you're currently running. Will all submitted tours and activities be accepted onto Embark.org?
In an effort to deliver the best, most genuine adventure experiences to our community, all activities and tours submitted to Embark.org will be checked for information accuracy and brand alignment. However, should your activity/tour submission be turned down, we'll always work with you to identify what's wrong, help find ways to improve it, and get it published onto the site. Please note that we can smell Spam submissions from a mile away, so anything you post should be original, and should help add to the uniqueness of Embark.org's community.
Where and how does Embark.org get its information?
First and foremost, our own personal travel experiences (both past and ongoing) yield a ton of valuable insights to draw from. To date, the team has ventured to over 60 countries and counting. But since we can't be everywhere (or can we...?), we rely on both the knowledge and expertise of our community, as well as our own continuously updated research, to help round out the effort. The end goal? To create the most genuine, accurate and inspiring adventure travel website on the planet.
What is Embark.org's commitment to sustainable tourism?
As we strive to make Embark.org a special place where people can find and book unique adventures around the world, it's important to take into consideration the impact from both hosts and travelers. This begins with making sure that all tours tread lightly upon the nature that we all love to explore, and that all parties involved do what they can to have a minimal impact. Secondly, as we look to connect our community with a genuine experience of cultural immersion, it's critical that all local hosts and tour operators respect and engage properly with local people and customs. We believe that one's presence in an area should enhance, not detract from the local culture and in fact we encourage locals to submit P2P tours on Embark.org as a means of additional income vs. supporting larger, internationally owned operations. Embark.org is committed to helping maintain responsible tourism practices, and reserves the right to reject tour providers or remove tours if an adventure is deemed inappropriate by our standards.
Why aren't all of the world's countries covered?
Well, the world is a pretty big place, and even though we're dead-set on covering as much of it as humanly possible, traveling, writing, and diligent research take time. The good news? Alongside your continuing activity and adventure tour submissions, we'll constantly be adding new content and covering new countries to help keep the adventure opportunities limitless. The end goal? A worldwide grassroots adventure community where people can get inspired, connect with travelers, and have a central place to host and book meaningful and engaging adventure travel experiences.
