Located in the 6th arrondissement, not too far northeast of the Lyon city center, the Parc de la Tete d'Or is a 117 hectare (290 acre) escape from the hustle and congestion of urban living. With attractions that include botanical and rose gardens, grassy fields and a large, pristine lake, this metropolitan park has become a haven for grandmothers (we're kidding), runners and cyclists, as well as those in in search of some natural peace and relaxation. Near the northern end, Tete d'Or also contains a small zoo, complete with a 2.5 acre "African Plain" that houses, among other animals, flamingos, lions and giraffes. Not that we're big on captive animal viewing, mind you, but them's the facts. All in all, as urban parks go, this is a prime option for a laid back day in Lyon.
