The beautiful Place des Terreaux is one of Lyon's most significant (and beautiful) cultural hubs. Not only is it adorned with the magnificent Terreaux Fountain, City Hall and the adjacent fine arts museum, but its selection of nearby restaurants and cafes constantly breathe life and utility into the immediate and surrounding neighborhoods. As night falls, stroll northeast along rue Romarin and rue Desiree and you'll be smack in the middle of one of the city's liveliest nightlife districts. Visit during December's Festival of Lights and you'll be treated to one of Europe's wildest annual light displays, making the atmosphere even more spectacular. Suffice to say, it's something of a can't miss location for a variety of reasons.
