100 km (62 miles) east and slightly south of Marseille you'll find the Iles d'Hyeres, a grouping of 3 islands that boast fantastic hiking trails and some of the best scuba diving in southeastern France. Though Le Levant is predominantly off limits to travelers due to its strong military presence, the other 2 French Iles make for a perfect adventure getaway.
Those keen on keeping their heads above water can enjoy hiking, biking and scenic beach trails on Porquerolles, or more restricted but secluded hikes along the cliffs of neighboring Port-Cros. The real treasure of this latter island, however, is its National Land and Marine Park. Encompassing pristine hiking trails, incredible wrecks and natural dive sites, as well as a surface marked underwater snorkeling trail, it's definitely a beautiful and rewarding addition to your southern France itinerary.
