Set inside the Louvre Palace, a fortress which dates back to 12th century France, today's Louvre is the world's most toured art museum and an internationally renown landmark in downtown Paris. Over 30,000 works of historical and artistic interest are displayed throughout its 60,500+ sq meter (651,200+ sq ft) interior, including Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities and priceless works of art by painters such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Caravaggio. With over 8 million visitors annually, intimate experiences of the Louvre's grandeur are a bit hard to come by. Still, with such an awe inspiring collection at your disposal (i.e. The Mona Lisa), you'll hardly notice the crowds.
