Located in the city of Dachau, this concentration camp was the first in a line of Holocaust camps and was Hitler's model for those that followed. Open currently as a memorial site for those who passed, this memorial gives the visitor a chance to walk in the footsteps of those condemned by Nazi rule, as well as access to an on-site archive of Dachau related artifacts and texts.
Dachau is one of the most prominent examples of the machinery of genocide and remains one of the few places that still tells of the horror and brutality that human beings willingly heap upon each other. It's not an easy place to visit, but it is necessary. Contact the museum for information on guided tours and their cost, and make Dachau, just northwest of Munich, a part of your itinerary.
