My first trip to Kaieteur Falls in Guyana was a fail when the plane turned around after a few minutes due to the engines overheating! The next day however was a success!
Kaieteur National Park is located an hour's flight away from Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. The aerial views the entire flight are beautiful, but nothing beats the view of the falls (the pilot turned the plane so it could be seen from both sides).
Upon arrival, we set off on foot to view the falls from 3 different vantage points. Along the way we kept checking almost every Giant Tank Bromeliad (a large, localized, leafy plant) hoping to sight the Golden Arrow Frog - I saw 2.
Kaieteur Falls are reportedly the longest single drop falls in the world, but even if you want to dispute that, its still an impressive view!
