Often touted as Europe's most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss is without a doubt an epic, rumbling force of nature made all the better by its sheer-canyoned landscape. Plunging 45 meters to Jökulsárgljúfur canyon, this spectacle is best seen from the west side of the river, for the spray can often obscure the view from the east.
One of the highlights of the ring road in Iceland's northeastern portion, you'll enjoy the numerous views afforded by the 20 minute walk from the car park. And even though this does get its fair share of tourists, it's a hundred-meter-wide waterfall located in the remote canyons of Iceland. There's no use complaining about a good thing.
Location:Jökulsárgljúfur National Park
Note:Be sure to take advantage of the short walk to the picturesque Selfoss waterfall, a horseshoe-shaped falls located just upstream.
