Salerno is a beautiful coastal city South East of Naples. Just like any other city in Italy, there are many sites to see and fantastic food to enjoy. Visit the Castello di Arechi for some history and relax by Castellabate for some sun, but if you’re in town looking for an extreme thrill, try skydiving Salerno. The staff is super friendly and happy to share their world of adventure with you. Soaring through the air is a way of life for these skydivers. As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed to a spectacular demonstration. These guys were jumping barefoot to show off their soft landing skills. Some jumpers were skimming just inches above the ground for several yards before touching down. I was immediately impressed and knew that they where whom I wanted to experience my first skydive with. After filling out the regulatory paperwork and watching a demo video, you will be securely fitted for a tandem harness. After a pat on the back and a thumbs up from your skydive instructor, you will be escorted to the airplane. Don’t get too excited, these planes do not have first class, or in-flight video options. It’s just you sitting on the floor of the cargo bay with your dive instructor, maybe your buddies (If they were brave enough to join in on the fun) and the pilot flying. The plane ride takes about 15 to 20 minutes to climb up to 4200 Meters, or close to 13,000 feet. You can use that time to either enjoy the sites of the pretty clouds, or to reflect on all of your life decisions. Once the plane reaches altitude and the door opens, you are quickly reminded of what is about to go down. You! Your instructor asks if you’re ready and then before you know it, you are freefalling at about 130 mph back down to Salerno. Skydiving in this location is absolutely breathtaking. Once your parachute deploys and your adrenaline levels stabilize, enjoy the eye candy from the blues and greens of the Mediterranean Sea. Once you’ve landed, you are welcomed back to earth with high fives and smiles all around! Check out www.skydivesalerno.it on your next visit to Italy. It’s only an hour drive from Naples.
