For anyone who has visited the relatively unheralded Avicennia Island, located along Kenya's far southern coastline, allow us to give you a virtual pat on the back. For the rest, let's use this opportunity to make a small introduction.
Located along the white mangrove forests of the Funzi Keys, this beautiful, isolated island offers plenty of seclusion and tropical scenery for those looking to get away from Mombasa for either an afternoon or, better yet, a few days. Aside from boating, fishing, swimming and kicking back to enjoy one of Kenya's best kept secrets, visitors can (and usually do) take to their kayaks to explore the vast, submerged Avicennia marina trees that surround it. While it may seem quaint, the experience is actually an incredibly rewarding challenge, and there's plenty of exotic bird-life to boot (yippee)!
