For the urban explorer in all of us, Nairobi's Karura Forest is just the thing to add some natural adventure to a day spent checking out the city. At around 2,500 acres there's plenty to see, including caves, a 50 ft. waterfall and a host of running and biking trails that stretch anywhere from 5 to 15 km throughout the reserve. Those interested in observing some natural wildlife can expect to see monkeys, brush hogs, porcupines and even fruit bats, which may not be the most exciting collection of African animals but, hey, look on the bright side; at least you'll still be top-dog on the food chain. That's reassuring, right? Overall, it's not a bad option for a scenic day out in northern Nairobi.
