The oldest national park in the Sarawak region of Borneo, Bako has a range of gorgeous landscapes and rare creatures. From rugged rainforest trails to secluded waterfalls to deserted, sandy beaches, you'll be seeing a lot of interesting terrain. Also, depending on the trail you choose to follow, you may encounter a variety of monkeys, otters, pigs, or even the occasional carnivorous plant.
Try the Paku Trail or the Tajor Trail, less than half day hikes that will hit most of the park's highlights. For a list of costs, accommodations, hiking trails, and more, check out the included forestry website.
Note:Ride the ferry in from Kuching and arrange for one of the boatmen to pick you up if necessary from one of the beaches; for the more adventurous, ask to be taken to the uninhabited Pulau Lakei, home to some gorgeous beaches and unadulterated greenery.
