One of Johor Bahru's more upscale neighborhoods, Taman Molek is a traveler's treasure trove of cuisine that also includes a few nightlife diamonds in the rough. Bordered on two sides by golf courses and accessed from central Johor Bahru via the Tebrau Highway, this quickly developing area is more of an entertainment area than a cultural center, but it will still reveal a glimpse of modern Malaysia.
Both cuisine and nightlife are concentrated on Jalan Persiaran Molek Utama, with more than a dozen side streets all named Jalan Molek (yeah, you won't get confused at all). For a cafe environment that would fit in in any international city, you have both My Liberica and the thoughtfully titled Just Want Coffee. Restoran Sayed is the go-to for Mamak (Indian) food, Mama Nyonya is your nyonya (Chinese/Malay influences) destination, and Restoran Pekin Johor Jaya is fine dining with the typical Malaysian flavors and price tag.
If you're one to pursue drinks once the sun goes down (or no matter the hour), you can do so while doing karaoke, which is quite popular in JB, or you can stop at one of the handful of bars located on both ends of Jalan Persiaran Molek Utama.
