About an hour's ride from Kuala Lumpur is a massive entertainment complex, nestled high in the Titiwangsa Mountains, called the Genting Highlands. This pleasure paradise has seen better days, and we include it for you because it can actually prove to be a cool hub from which to take off for a few adventures. Sure, it's home to the only casino in Malaysia, the largest hotel in the world (The First World Hotel), and the longest cable car system in Southeast Asia (the Genting Skyway), but the nearby mountain hikes will be your biggest reason to stop here. A fuzzily remembered night or two at the Genting Highlands very well may be just what you need after tackling summits like Gunung Huang and sleeping in the wilderness for a week.
Despite being the type of destination that personifies excitement and debauchery, the Genting Highlands aren't in the shape you'd expect of four or five star resorts in Vegas and can be a bit tacky, a fact to take into account before including this in your plans.
