If you're looking for drinking and dining with superlative views of both downtown Auckland and the sweeping waters of Waitemata Harbour, then the promenade at Mission Bay is a no-brainer. Located east of central Auckland at the southern shore of the harbor, you'll find a lot of green, hilly space at Michael Joseph Savage Memorial park and the majority of eating and drinking establishments just east of that along the water.
Largely centered around Tamaki Drive, upmarket cafes and eateries are the staples here, with plenty of outdoor seating and style to spare. Movenpick, with its delectable ice cream, and De Fontein, with its great, although overpriced beer selection, enjoy the coveted corner of Patteson Ave., while the leather-lounging of of Attic Bar and beer hall vibe of Rickshaw Eddy's are the cornerstones of the area nightlife. Mission Bay Cafe is the most popular coffee stop and Burgerfuel (which is everywhere) is a good, meaty burger for the carnivores. The best part about Mission Bay, though, is that in tandem with your eating and/or drinking, you've got a quality beach that looks out on the volcanic island of Rangitoto and the other sights along the bay. Note:The classic Art Deco designs of the Berkeley Theater are another alternative if you're looking for a cool place to see a flick.
