Trolltunga, meaning Troll's Tongue, is a rock like no other. It is a piece of rock that juts out horizontally from a cliff face overlooking the lake of Ringedalsvatnet, nearly 700 metres below. You can't help but feel it might snap off at any point, but as of yet, no one has either fallen, or caused any of the rock to break off (according to modern records).
To reach the rock, you must head to the village of Tyssedal, then head up the mountain. At the car park, several kilometres above the village, you will find signs indicating that it is a ten hour round hike (for the average hiker), meaning that you really have to work to see this special place - there is no way to get any closer than this by car. At the top, free-camping is permitted and there is also an unmanned cabin which you can pay to sleep in if you so wish.
