The Moray Ruins lie just west of Maras village, 50 km (31 miles) northwest of Cuzco. Though the site might seem a little more akin to science fiction than adventure, its intrigue and slightly off-the-beaten-path location make it particularly appealing to travelers of a more exploratory disposition.
Little is known for certain about Moray, but predominant theories suggest that it likely served as an experimental agricultural grounds for crop development. Whatever its mysterious purpose, venturing 30 meters down these descending, concentric plots of land is an experience unto itself, with temperature variations reaching 15 C between top and bottom. Just be sure not to skip out on the hike to the surrounding hills for your best all-encompassing photo opportunities.
