Coron is a municipality on the island of Busuanga, Palawan. The bay of Coron is considered one of the world's best dive sites due its superb wreck diving opportunities. In September 1944, World War II was nearing its end, a fleet of Japanese ships were sunk in by the US Navy. The result of the raid can now be explored by experiences divers. Coron Bay features ten well-preserved underwater shipwrecks, mostly tankers and a couple of gunboats, surrounded by coral reef. One of the biggest and most interesting wrecks is the IJNS Irako, resting in a maximum depth of 42 m. The sometimes difficult conditions and the sheer size of the wreck require being more of an experienced diver. Smaller gunboats, lying in shallower waters, can even be explored while snorkeling.
Prices for diving in Coron are among the lowest in the Philippines and a wide range of dive shops are happily offering their service.
Coron can be reached by plane from Manila, Cebu or Puerto Princessa or by boat from El Nido and also from Manila.
