Beautiful Las Wolski Forest is located just 8 km west of Krakow, encompassing Sowiniec Hill and all its scenic views of the nearby city (scenic because this particular hill is only surrounded by trees, not covered by them). The deciduous forest itself takes up an area of 450 hectares (1112 acres), including 35 km (22 miles) of hiking, biking and cross country skiing trails, as well as several nature reserves, the Pilsudski Mound Fortress and even a zoo (yay!). There's no crazy plant or animal life to speak of (although you might catch sight of a fox or the occasional roe deer), but don't let that sway your opinion too much. For the return on such a short jaunt out of town, it's an excellent daytime adventure option for anyone looking to get out of the city and romp around the Polish wilderness for a few hours.
