Kampinoski National Park is situated just northwest of Warsaw, and offers visitors the opportunity to explore everything from European lowland forests to inland sand dunes without venturing far from the capital. Now it's true that this mix of primeval trees, marshlands and other geographical features may not exactly match the intensity of, say, the Tatras to the south; still, the combination of sand, forest, marsh and grass makes for a fantastic natural contrast both to experience and to explore.
With hundreds of miles of hiking and cycling trails at your disposal, tours are available but certainly not necessary in order to enjoy the spectacular scenery within the park. For those with historic curiosities, Kampinoski also contains several Polish cemeteries dedicated to those who lost their lives during both WWII and the anti-Russian uprisings.
