The Hoia-Baciu forest of Transylvania is often cited as the most haunted forest in all of the world. If you head to Cluj-Napoca (originally two cities), it is a short walk into the forest which covers an area of 250 hectares and is famed for its supposed paranormal activity. Strange shaped trees can be found across the forest and past visitors have reported all manner of ghostly appearances and ill-fated woes occurring. Many others refuse to enter. On my visit, I saw nothing much more bizarre than an immense flock of sheep being driven by a single shepherd in the otherwise deserted forest - then I found out than the forest was named after a shepherd that disappeared in the area with a flock of two hundred sheep. Was that him?
