The Gouritz River is a great place for canoeing or rafting, but our reasons to love it are much more sensational. The Gouritz River Bridge and its counterpart, "the old bridge," double as South Africa's most exciting bridge swinging and bungee jumping spots. At 65 meters (213 feet) above the water, you can drop straight down or you can swing between the bridges, leading to some of the most ridiculous adrenaline rushes and subsequent coolest water cooler stories for the boys back at the office.
At the moment, jumping has been temporarily suspended due to a structural investigation; so keep your eye on embark.org for updates or contact the tourism offices in nearby Albertinia or Mossel Bay.
If anything, spend some time in Mossel Bay (pictured), which isn't a bad second choice; it's a coastal town with plenty of swimming, fishing, snorkeling, and other related activities in the Indian Ocean. It would also be a great stop on your way between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town!
