The Durban nightlife isn't one to put it on the international map, but there are plenty of establishments that cater to sports-watchers, beer drinkers, booty-shakers, cocktail-sippers, and beat-lovers of the world. Sure, in a city of this size you'd expect a little more, but expect to be satisfied by what is offered.
The most famous selection of nightlife can be had along Florida Road, which can be found half a dozen blocks west of Moses Mabhida Stadium. The whole street is a hip hangout haven, from dance lounge De La Sol to the bar-with-a-view over Italian institution Spiga d ' Oro (The Upstairs) to the high-traffic parties of Boulevard and the noisy artsy Bean Bag Bohemia. If you're one to take your night of fun in a one street sampling, then Florida Road is an obvious choice.
For places with a view of the water, there is Joe Cool's on North Beach, a huge place that has room for both dance parties and relaxing balcony cocktails, as well as the jazz and African music of the BAT Centre off of Maritime Road. The bar in the Blue Waters Hotel is also a possible spot with an ocean view, while a nightlife experience that also includes gambling could include the Sun Coast Casino, also a fixture on the Golden Mile.
Other popular spots include Origin, an exclusive weekend club in Lower Glenwood; Cool Runnings on Milne Street, where Reggae is king; and the small collective near Moses Mabhida Stadium (Keg & Spear, Berea Rovers, and the Stars Nightclub).
