About 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Johannesburg lie the Hennops River and the Hartbeespoort Dam (fed separately by the Crocodile River and Magalies River), a premiere outdoor recreation area. For the outdoorsfolk amongst us, there are a number of things to do at the dam, which is popular with locals for watersports and hiking, with the Harties Cableway serving as a quick way to put the region in bird's eye perspective.
Our favorite hike is the Krokodilberg Trail, which is a half day trip further up the Hennops River through Dolomite rock formations, across suspension bridges, and into some excellent views of the Magaliesberg mountains. If you need to, consult the included site for further information on the Hartbeespoort Dam.
