Considered by many to be the best beach in Spain, la Concha is a gorgeous, sandy bay at the base of Mount Urgull in San Sebastian. It is a great place to relax amidst the majesty of the natural world and snack on the local version of tapas (pintxos) as you conserve your energy for the lively San Sebastian nightlife. If you're truly looking for adventure, you may want to take the hike from Mari Street in the city's old town up Mount Urgull to fortification of La Mota Castle at its peak. Then again, the best views of the city can be had from Mount Igueldo at the end of Ondarreta Beach; you may take the funicular train to the peak or foot it to the old amusement park at the top. Either way, both hikes are easily manageable and provide great views of Play de la Concha and the ocean beyond.
Because of its location near the border of France, San Sebastian and its world famous beach can be worth a day or two of serenity or are looking to cross the border to do some real adventuring in some excellent French national parks in the Pyrenees Mountains.
