The largest national park in Spain, Sierra Nevada is also home to the Mulhacén and the Pico del Veleta, the two highest peaks in the Iberian peninsula (3,482m/11,424 feet and 3,396m/11,142 feet respectively).
For hiking, we recommend the Beas de Granada, a moderately easy, 16km (almost 10 miles) climb along the ridgeline that culminates in the city of Granada. You can also choose from an incredible range of treks along southern Spain's main long-distance trail, the GR-7, which covers a large swath of the park. Check out the included hiking website for a number of specific hikes.
For the winter sports fanatic, there is the southernmost ski resort in Europe, Pradollano. This ski wonderland is 30 km (18 miles) from the city and is best enjoyed from November to May.
