When visiting the magical and complex Bangkok, be sure to include a "cruise" through the maze of canals that feed into the Chao Phraya River. Hire a small traditional Thai motor boat to take you and a few friends to explore parts of the city you'd otherwise miss if you stay on terra firma. Ask the boat captain to take you off the main canals into the backwaters. There you will see how incredibly integrated the canals and the people of Bangkok are. You'll see women washing clothes, kids swimming and splashing about and fishermen trying their luck. Then you'll see a gigantic monitor lizard lounging on a dock and wonder how anyone is brave enough to venture into the waters! You'll probably be approached by a boat vendor- selling fresh fish or clothes or textiles. The scenery can get a little grungy, but this is real Bangkok - and if your experience is like ours you will never forget the things you see!
Note:The map location is the Chao Phraya River in the heart of Bangkok.
