Conveniently located across the street from the Grand Palace in Bangkok is the equally stunning Wat Pho. This intricately beautiful complex is divided into two sections: the southern portion consisting of a working Buddhist monastery where it's not uncommon (and definitely surreal) to sit in on monks chanting in prayer, and the northern portion housing the 43 m long Reclining Buddha (the undisputed star of the show). You read that right, 43 m long and 15 m high and, but for the soles of its feet which display the 108 auspicious characters of the Buddha, completely covered in gold leaf. It's an impressive sight to say the least. You'll most likely be sharing the view with several hundred awe-struck admirers at a time, but we'd be hard pressed to say the sacred statue isn't well deserving of the crowd. Just don't forget to check out the rest of the complex, as there's plenty of sights to see and tranquility to experience in this one of a kind temple.
